Q: What do contributions mean and how they are computed and
paid?

Q: How the additional charges for delay
are computed?
A: The employer should comply with the payment of the
monthly contributions within 15 days of the month following the
month for which payment is due, and if the employer delays
payment of the monthly contributions, an additional amount is
charged @ (13.5%) of the contributions amount:
Illustrative example:
The contributions due for January is amounting to RO.14.000, and
if the employer fails to pay the monthly contributions till 15th
Feb, an additional amount of (14.000 x 13.5%) = RO.1.890 will be
charged.
Q: Is it possible to join nominal periods
to the contributions periods for the old age insurance?
A: The Ministerial Decision No.217/2001 permits the
insured under the Social Insurance Law and those who are subject
to the Social Insurance Law applicable to the Omanis working
abroad to join the nominal contributions periods with a maximum
limit of five years for the male insured and two years for the
female insured to complete the period required for the
entitlement to old age pension in case of the termination of the
service of the male insured who reaches sixty years of age and
fifty five years of age for the female insured without
fulfilling the period required for entitlement to the said
pension after payment of the joining cost.
Q: What if the contributions cheque is
drawn on a bank other the banks listed on the backside of the
bill?
A: In such case the employer should approach the
Authority's Head office to complete the payment procedures.
Q: When I approached the Ministry of
Manpower for completing certain transactions, I was surprised
that my transactions are suspended by the Public Authority for
Social Insurance, what are the requirements for lifting the
suspension imposed on the transactions?
A: The transactions of the employers violating the Social
Insurance rules and regulations, particularly payment of the
monthly contributions are suspended. In order to lift the
suspension, it is a must to pay all the liabilities payable by
the employer to the Authority.
Q: Is it possible to pay the monthly
outstanding contributions on installment basis?
A: Yes, payment of contributions may be paid in
installments according to the relevant applicable procedures. |
